In particular, Lucchini Central Europe manufactures and delivers wheels with specific features to improve performance and meet all customer requirements, focusing on the high-speed and locomotive markets.

SURA®
Our thermostable (i.e. “low-stress”) wheels are designed to limit deformations and internal stresses caused by thermal loads during tread braking.
PROPRIETARY STEEL GRADES
We provide a complete range of proprietary steel grades with specific features, improving wheel performance and properties.
STATE OF THE ART MACHINING LINE
With the 3 fully automatic processing machines, Lucchini Central Europe can produce approx. 12,000 wheels up to a diameter of 1,250 mm per year.
The machining centres are the largest pick-up turning systems in the world.
Fully automated processing includes:

The automatic part measurement

The mechanical processing (turning-milling machine) including all bores

In-service testing of welded metal structural work (bogie structures and body structures)

The ultrasonic testing (UT) in the processing plant itself

Wheel balancing

Marking the wheels
The wheels are then inspected at a magnetic particle test (MT) and automatically measured with a 3-D measuring machine (CMM) down to approx. 1 my.
